Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a veiled dig at the Gandhi family on Friday, blaming ‘one party’ for the repeated disruptions in Parliament.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a thumping majority in the 2014 general elections on the promises of development, but the last two sessions of Parliament failed to transact business in the face of protests by opposition parties.
“There are leaders in opposition parties who want Parliament to run even as they oppose me but one family is rigid not to allow Rajya Sabha to function,” the PM said at an election rally in Assam. His remarks were seen as a dig at the Congress’ first family.
He said the Congress was taking ‘revenge’ after its loss in the Lok Sabha elections.

The principal opposition party mounted pressure on the government in monsoon and winter sessions over issues such as political and religious intolerance, dealing a blow to key reform measures, including the goods and services tax bill.
The crucial budget session starts on February 23 and the Union budget will be presented on February 29.
Speaking at Friday’s rally, Modi asked the people of Assam to give a chance to the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections. The BJP emerged as the largest party in the northeastern state after the general elections held two years ago.
